Its confirmed! The trio of Farhan Akhtar, Riteish Sidhwani and Abhishek Kapoor will be bringing Ashok Bankers screenplay dreams to celluloid.Given the Oscar buzz around the LA release of The Fakir of Venice, it is speculated that a Slumdog Millionaire type Hollywood-Bollywood crew could be a part of the deal, since the duo are said to have their sights set on the Oscars.
To be produced by Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani, it is to be directed by Abhishek Kapoor. It is also speculated Farhan will be acting in the English-language venture, tentatively titled 'Sid' and views it as his ticket to Hollywood.
According to the twitter, Bankers original screenplay, which he wrote on spec, was bought by the very first producers I showed it to, and sold for the highest sum paid to any Indian screenwriter ever Im told its 10 times higher than the highest previous sum paid. Not that the money paid is important in itself no, wait a minute, hold on, what am I saying? Lets be honest here... of course, its important, dude!
Farhan says, I dont know about highest paid... but its a very good script that we are producing. I will not be acting in it.
The screenplay apparently is not based on any book, and an original one. Its nothing to do with Bankers Ramayana series or any other book, the writer tells us.
Rock on, guys!
